Last night the Nixon-Smiley Middle School football team traveled to take on the Pirates from Poth. Here are some of the highlights. The Mustangs came up on the short end of a 20 - 14 deficit. The team played a hard-fought game to the end. Nixon had the ball with the chance to win the game at the end. The Mustangs were led on offense by Aiden Flores, John Garza, and Ryan Paez. John scored two touchdowns in the 1st quarter to give the Mustangs a 14 - 0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The defense was led by Ryan Paez, Julian Amaya, Joel Salmeron, Abraham Valerio, and Nicholas Martinez. The defense stopped Poth late in the 4th quarter to give the offense one more opportunity to score and win the game. Next week the Mustangs will be playing their last home game of the season against the Badgers from Karnes City. Thank you for the support from the entire student body. Also, do not forget that next week's game is Pink Out. Some show your support in our fight against cancer. The 7th-grade game will start at 5:00, and the 8th grade will begin at 6:00. #MustangStrong
