In-person assistance for online registration will close today at 5:30pm. Assistance will be available tomorrow in Nixon from 8:30am-5:30pm, but after tomorrow there are no future in-person registration days scheduled. Also, please remember campus offices are closed to walk-in visitors at this time. If you require assistance after tomorrow you will need to fill out an online request form.
Online registration is currently open for all students today through July 31st. If you need assistance, in-person registration is being held today (student’s last name ending in A-M) and tomorrow (student’s last name ending in N-Z) on the Nixon campus for all grade levels. All students must be registered whether they will be participating in in-person or remote instruction.
Dear Parents and Community,
Given the ever-changing landscape of the COVID-19 situation, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has given schools more flexibility to keep school districts closed to in-person instruction this fall. Thus we are seeking your input on possible calendar and start date changes through this quick survey.
Please complete this as soon as possible as we are already deliberating this issue.

Yearbooks are still available online only. Go to yearbookforever.com and type in Nixon-Smiley, and our school should come up. These will be available online until June 5.
Attention Parents of MS and HS Students: Please have your child check their school email daily for information regarding school work, course request information for incoming grades 5-12, and other important information and announcements.
NSCISD SHAC Adventure Race has been canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions.
High school athletes can come pick up their personal items from the locker room on Thursday(23rd) from 3 to 5pm. Please make sure to practice social distancing.
On May 15th the meal delivery and pick up service will end. However, on June 1st, our normal summer service will begin with meals available for pick up at the Nixon Cafeteria. If your family is struggling to feed your children during the gap, please contact a campus principal.
Nixon-Smiley CISD is not supporting or encouraging any social media “Adopt a Senior” campaigns. We are very concerned about the safety of our students and worry that posting pictures and/or sharing personal information, including home addresses, could be risky.
However, we do strongly encourage anyone who wants to provide a gift or card to our Seniors to work with our local merchants who set up Senior Registries. In the past, this has included Main Drug, The Flower Tubb, and Western Store Nixon. Using this option would not only show our Seniors that you care, but it would support local businesses.
We will let you know when those registers are ready and how to participate.
If any other local businesses are participating, please contact the superintendent at cathy.lauer@nixonsmiley.net so you can be included in future press releases.
Middle School athletes (boys and girls) can come clean out their athletic lockers on Wednesday (22nd) from 3 - 5pm.
Coach McKinney will be in the office on Monday(20th) from 10am - 12pm for any Middle School or High School athletes needing to get personal items out of their lockers. If you can not come in tomorrow, you may call Coach McKinney and schedule a time to pick-up items.
On May 8th formal remote instruction for most students will conclude. Please be sure your child(ren) have submitted all assignments and activities required.
May 8th–May 22nd teachers will work with students who are failing or have not completed the remote instruction activities.
As you have probably heard, Governor Abbott issued an executive order closing all school
campuses through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. However, instruction is not yet
over.
People with no symptoms have the potential to unknowingly spread COVID-19! That’s why it’s best for everyone in your family to stay at home and away from others as much as possible until instructed otherwise from state and local officials. #StayHomeTexas
Remember the importance of social distancing. If you must go out, avoid public spaces and keep your distance from others (at least 6 feet). If we continue to follow valuable public health guidance, fewer of our friends & family will be affected by COVID-19. #StayHomeTexas
Important Notice: On Thursday, April 9th, the Nixon-Smiley meal delivery will include 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches. We will then resume normal delivery on Tuesday, April 14th.This change is because the National School Lunch Program does not allow meals on scheduled school holidays.
#COVID19 lives on droplets in the lungs of people with the virus, even if they don’t have symptoms. When infected people breathe, the virus enters the air. If you can’t #StayHome, wear a mask/scarf/bandana, stay 6 feet apart, and wash your hands. #DontGoViral
